Supportive Independent Living Services (SILS)
SILS was established in 1996 with the primary purpose of assisting those adults with severe mental disabilities who need some supports in order to maintain independent housing. Special priority is given to individuals who have been unable to maintain independent housing during the previous 24 months. Services provided are “custom designed” to meet the unique and individual needs of each consumer. Consumer choice is a key feature of all services provided through SILS; as part of the program design, the consumer is directly responsible for choosing the services he/she feels are needed. SILS is associated with 13 independent living housing sites scattered throughout Cuyahoga County. However, these properties are not the only living options for SILS consumers, who can choose to live anywhere in the County. In fact, most consumers arrange their own housing.
